What a Week!

Wow! What a crazy couple of weeks since John's birthday. The week after his birthday, he was cranky and tired, but we kept blaming it on all the festivities, plus daylight savings time. On the following Sunday, he started a cough and just seemed really tired. When I dropped him off at daycare on Monday, he fell asleep in the car on the way there which rarely happens. He looked so sad when I dropped him off and I just had a pit in my stomach. I actually called at lunch to check on him because I just had this feeling something was wrong. When I called, they told me he was just unusually quiet. Around an hour later, I got a call saying he had a fever. So Brad was able to go pick him up. He came home and pretty much slept all afternoon.

In the morning, he was still running a temp, so we called the dr and made an appt for that afternoon. Brad ended up staying home with him and I left work after my last class to meet them at the doctor. SO glad I did...the poor kid ended up being admitted to the hospital! His pulse oxygen levels were low and he was wheezing and breathing rapidly. They decided to admit him to get some chest xrays and it turns out he had pneumonia!

It was an experience, let me tell you! We had to share a room at the hospital which was not fun. Tuesday night, John was in great spirits though. My sister and parents came up to visit and he had them all up and down the halls (he discovered the toy room). So he milked it a little :) That night though, Brad left and I stayed with him and it was a LONG night. His oxygen levels kept dropping and they ended up having to get him oxygen through his nose. They had tubes taped all over his face, and he kept waking up, pulling them off. Then alarms would go off, and repeat...Finally he settled in with me and we just slept together on the chair. He was discharged on Wednesday and has been on antibiotics and breathing treatments since. I take him back to the doctor tomorrow to check up on things, but he is acting like his old self again...what a relief! My poor little baby!!! I felt so bad for him.

He has been a little ham lately. He loves to sing and dance to music, especially the "Five Little Ducks" song. I had found a video on You Tube that is so ridiculous, and now every time he sees the laptop he starts "quacking" with his hands. Hilarious. He also learned how to point and say "NO NO NO!" Thanks Mom.:) My mom babysat the other night and he kept standing on his chair, so she would shake her finger and say "No John" and now he thinks that is so funny. He is also going through some separation anxiety which has not been fun. The past two days I have dropped him off at daycare he has just been so sad when I leave, which makes me so sad. I can't wait for spring break next week to be on vacation with him!!

Speaking of being home, the other big news this week is that I was laid off from my teaching position yesterday for next school year. The cuts the Governor is proposing will result in over 3.6 million for our district, so over 100 teachers were laid off. I am optimistic I will be called back, but it is still a waiting and guessing game to see if I do and where I will be placed. So, I keep telling myself things will work out and what is meant to be will happen. I think what scares me most is the future of public schools. Now that I am a parent, I can't even imagine what schools are going to look like in 5 years with what is happening all over right now. Well, on a happier note, I will leave you with some pictures...Have a great week!

After a long night at the hospital, waiting to go home in the "toy room."

Breathing treatments...he is not always this happy doing this!

His other latest obsession are snacks. He gets that from his mama :) Any time we even open the cupboard, his little hand goes up in the air and he starts begging. If only he were like that for real food...

"NO NO NO NO!"

This is for you Aunt Jenny! On Tuesday at the hospital, he kept making this funny face...not sure what this is all about!

John's 1st Birthday Party

John's 1st birthday was so much fun and a big success! Brad's parents and sister came in on Friday, his actual birthday, and my parents, Jenny, Doug, and Libby also came over for dinner to celebrate. With Kruse and Muer, of course :) Our standard celebratory meal :)

On the day of the party, Nan and Lisa helped me to get ready and then the fun began! We had so many people, and Brad and I were once again touched by every one's love and generosity! This is one spoiled and loved kid! He got a slide, a sand/water table, a "Cozy Truck," 2 chairs, sand toys, books, clothes, you name it. And he LOVED playing with the cake. He was such a little ham when everyone started singing...smiling, looking around at everyone. Too cute.

For the party, we had Salsaritas cater the food. It was so good. I would highly recommend them for a party. They delivered it right before the party, there was so much food, and it was very reasonable!

I took him to his 1 year appointment on Monday and at one year he weighs 22 pounds, 13 ounces and was 30 inches long. All of his percentiles were right about 50%. We are going to be weaning him off formula in the next couple of weeks, so whole milk here we come!

I still can't believe he is one year old! He is so much fun. Tonight Brad is at the Red Wings Game, so when we got home we went for a walk to the park (it was 60 degrees today!). It was so much fun. He went on the swings, and was laughing, we went down the slide, and he was walking all over in the sand area. It makes me so excited for this summer.

Well, here are some pictures from his birthday weekend. Thank you to everyone for celebrating with us and making it such a special weekend!

Brad's Uncle Larry made this rocking chair for John...it is SO cute! He loves it!

Pre Party with Aunt Lisa

I had found this banner idea from a friend of a friend's blog, who sent me her template and instructions. I used all of his "Month" pictures and it turned out SO cute! Thanks Heather!!!

This is John's birthday sign from daycare :) Our caregiver, Shelly's, daughter/future babysitter :) made this for him. Thanks Shelby!!! It is so cute and we still have it up!

Our basement with the "Sweets Table" YUM!

I am liking all this attention!

The cake

John's "Smash Cake" and cupcakes.

Opening gifts...he looks so sleepy here!

Playing with my new toys...I am one lucky boy!

My sister, Doug, and Libby got him this chair. If Brad or I pretend that we are going to sit in it, he marches over and pulls us away and then sits in it. Little stinker!

Thanks for coming to my party everyone!!!

ONE YEAR!!!

Tomorrow my baby will be one. Holy moly. I was putting him to sleep tonight and I got all teary! I love him so much, I can't believe how much our lives have changed this past year, and I can't believe how much it almost hurts your heart sometimes to have so much love and pride for a child.

It is hard to believe is has been a year ago that I was wondering, "Will this baby EVER come?" and would have never believed anyone telling me he would be here by noon tomorrow. I remember how hard those first few months were, wondering, "Will he ever smile? What if he isn't a happy baby?"

I remember what a little peanut he was when he was born, and how the drs were worried about his weight. We had to take him to the urgent care the next day we got home since it was a Sunday and they wanted to do daily weight checks. Well, he is definitely smiley, and he is now a little chunk, so those worries were short lived!

Brad and I are so amazed by him everyday and are so excited for it to just keep getting better and better. We have such a fun weekend planned and can't wait to celebrate with family and friends.

Happy Birthday my little buddy! We love you John!!!
